The BBC big piano party, Pianos Everywhere, took place alongside the Leeds International Piano Competition, while the best pianists in the world were right here in Leeds. Qn Friday 22 September, there was an array of pianos in 10 unusual places including Chinatown, Kirkgate Market, and the Light here’s your chance. There was also a piano played in the train station, to serenade the busy commuters. Ten upright pianos, plus a concert grand piano, were shipped out of Besbrode Pianos, early on that Friday morning ready for the different piano sites dotted across Leeds. Anyone was able to play, whatever level, whatever age! Events There was also a free concert with Matthew Bourne, a professional jazz pianist and part-time lecturer at the Leeds College of Music, at the Wardrobe.
On Saturday 23 September Millennium Square was the site of a free concert by Benjamin Frith, a leading concert pianist, whose teacher was Dame Fanny Waterman doyenne of the Leeds International Piano competition. |
