Blast reporter Harry Aslam
Harry at this year's Party in the Park

Meet Harry

I'm Harry, I'm 18 and live in Harehills – I'm going to be the BBC Blast reporter for Leeds this summer.

I'll be reporting on what's going on in and around Leeds, looking at everything to do with arts, culture and young people in the city. Everything from music of all different genres, to visual arts ranging from film to graffiti - I'll be featuring it here for BBC Blast.

Name:

Harry Aslam. Don't have any nicknames particularly but I'm quite often known as just 'Aslam' or increasingly (and oddly) as 'Haddock' by my good friend Tom.

Born and bred:

Born in Harehills as a baby, moved around Leeds until my family moved out to North Yorkshire when I was 11 – I moved back to Leeds to go to 6th Form at Roundhay School.

Likes:

Most of my money is spent on food - a fact which would suggest that food can be put down on a list of my 'likes'. Pancakes and falafel are especially nice.

Also, I'm a big sports fan. I support Newcastle Utd and play football quite often, as well as tennis – those being my two main sports.

Music, films, reading and that kind of thing is also good – a good thing as I'll be reporting on that kind of stuff all summer.

Dislikes:

A Persian drink called 'doogh'.

I also tend to dislike some things in the worlds of politics and sport.

Interesting fact:

When I was 14 I had a plan to make money by making meerkats (as in Timon out of Timon and Pumbaa) the new 'must-have' pet. So, I went out and got a pair of meerkats, built them a massive palace of a cage and thought that they would start to have babies – my plan had a fatal flaw in that it turned out that both meerkats turned out to be male, meaning that there was absolutely zero chance of a successful breeding program.

More About me:

I missed seven years of school between Year 2 and Year 9, yet despite this, I attended four different secondary schools.
