Scarcroft has a 'countryside look'

Where I Live - Scarcroft

By site user Nahida Rashid
For the past two years I have lived in a small village called Scarcroft on Wetherby Road.

We have lovely scenery in and around Scarcroft, beautiful fields give the place a countryside look. Opposite our house is a huge area where horses graze. At night there are no street lights and it gives the place an old fashioned look.

Scarcroft is mainly for country folk where people are reserved. They only talk to other people who they get along with.

In Scarcroft we have a parish hall and a pub, where people meet each other and discuss events. Being Muslim we cannot go to pubs, and from the parish hall we don't receive any invitations, so it's isolated for us.

I have tried to fit in by asking how they are or by sharing food but no improvement!

Scarcroft is a pleasant place to live. The residents are good people but they need to be more aware of our culture and beliefs. If we had a community centre where we could meet each other once in a while to break down barriers then it would be a much better place to live in.

I have lived in Scarcroft for six months now and found it a complete nightmare. It seemed an idyllic place to live and in some respects it is. However, it is a very lonely isolated spot with no post office, local shop, the most boring pub in history and a bus route which runs every half hour, ridiculous. Thankfully the contract on my cottage runs out this month and I intend to return to the city centre. Countryside, pah!

I have lived in Churwell a few years with my wife, we have three young children and think it is a very special area to live for young families! There are nice schools and lots of fields and walking places, everyone is very friendly to us and our children.
