On the Spot

Barrie McDermott has got a new career, and it is not just pulling on a Widnes jersey after a short ‘retirement’.

Barrie McDermott

Born in Oldham Barrie worked on building sites for five years but signed for his home-town club. He retired after the 2005 Grand Final with his last game for the Leeds Rhinos before agreeing to sign for Widnes at 33 years old.

Clubs: Oldham, Wigan, Leeds, Bramley, Ireland and Great Britain.

Barrie McDermott has got a new career, and it is not just pulling on a Widnes jersey after a short ‘retirement’.

The former Leeds Rhino will be asking his fellow players the questions that matter in a new feature called On the Spot.

On the Spot sees Barrie, in the studio behind the mic, asking questions that will reveal more about the people that play rugby league. Barrie will be asking questions designed to bring out a new side to the tough-guy heroes the fans see out on the pitch.

In Barrie’s conversation with Rob you can find out what’s brown and sticky…. And why Rob thinks he had a ‘stinker’ against Warrington last season.

Rob enjoys the studio experience

Rob Burrow admits he supported Leeds as a child and went on to play for the club straight from school, which is lucky because his only thought about a suitable job was to play for the Rhinos.

Despite having on-field heroes and learning from watching some opposition players closely, when it comes to style Rob says: “I do my own thing”.

I absolutly love Rob Burrow and the Rhinos so much, but i was wondering if Rob had an autobiography because a guy at school said he did and i can't find it anywhere!

Andy Johnson
Rugby league has had some great black players, such as Ellery Hanley, Martin Offiah, Jason Robinson and Terry O'Connor, but who was the first black player in Britain?

Tony, Washington DC
What's your favourite meal/drink?

Clive from Beeston
If Widnes draw Leeds in the challenge cup Barrie will you turn out for Widnes?

katy
have you ever forgot anything important for a match e.g. your boots

Sharon from Sandbach, Cheshire
Move over Phil Clarke! Having seen you interview Jamie Peacock at Headingley, listened to your radio show and read your autobiography, I think you are a natural media presenter. Would you consider a career as a rugby league commentator/pundit?

Clair from Beeston
Not critizising Brian Noble for the GB performance this year in the tri-nations but do you think that we need a full time coach that doesn't have such super league commitments.

Mike from Benidorm!!!!
We listen online! What are your views on Brian Noble being the GB coach as well as the full time bradford coach? Do you think he has the time to give 100% to choosing the best GB team - without being slightly biased to bulls players.

would you ever go out with any of your fans?
i really like you plz say yes

Paul from Beeston.
Whats been the biggest change to the training methods since Tony Smith become the coach of the Rhinos, the best and worse aspects? Many thanks
