Junior Football match reports

Farnley Juniors 1 - 3 Kirkstall Crusaders

By site user Scott Donnell
Garforth League Supplementary Cup, Round 2, U11s, Sunday 15 January 2006.

Crusaders Cruise into quarter final

Another cold, damp Sunday & yet another away cup match for Kirkstall Crusaders. This time a short trip to Farnley with a quarter final place awaiting the winners.

1st min - Kirkstall start the game playing right to left as we looked on. Straight from the kick off Kirkstall make their intentions clear by going on the attack.

Some good play down the wing by Kirkstall as they force the 1st corner of the game on the right. Ricky took the corner but the ball went straight behind for a goal kick to Farnley.

3rd min - Farnley gain possession in midfield & run towards Kirkstall's goal only for Tom in goal to slip as he advanced to the edge of the area. The Farnley forward rounded Tom & looked certain to open the scoring only for Daniel in defence to clear the danger & kick the ball out for a throw in to Farnley.

The next few minutes were played out mainly in midfield with no real chances of note.

6th min - Farnley who were enjoying a good spell went on the attack & have a great shot parried by Tom in Kirkstall's goal with Daniel again averting the danger for Kirkstall & giving Farnley a corner on the left.

7th min - Farnley play the corner on but it was easily dealt with by Kirkstall's defence.

8th min - Farnley have a tame shot well saved by Tom in Kirkstall's goal.

10th min - Kirkstall go on the attack & this is the point of no return in this game as Kirkstall took the game to the hosts & never looked back.

Kirkstall win a corner on the right after putting Farnley under pressure at the back. The ball was played in & Llyndon had a good shot saved which cleared behind by Farnley.

11th min - Kirkstall take the corner from the left but was cleared upfield by Farnley's defence.

Farnley went upfield only for Daniel who was playing well today in defence & was never really troubled by the weak Farnley attack to again clear behind for a corner. The conrer was taken but cleared by Kirkstall.

14th min - Kirkstall after some good approach play win another corner on the right. The ball was played in but knocked out by Farnley's defence & fell nicely to Daniel  with his effort being saved.

16th min - Kirkstall who were in the ascendancy have a lovely move down the right wing resulting in a good cross which was slotted home by Kirkstall, however the referee adjudged the ball to have gone out of play when crossed into the box. A disappointment for the visitors, albeit temporary.

18th min - Kirkstall win a corner on left after putting Farnley under more pressure. The ball was played in but went behind for a goal kick.

20th min - Kirkstall have two quick shot well saved by the Farnley keeper, the first by Sean a good low drive from the edge of the box & the second from Joe whose effort was well saved high & to the keepers right.

23rd min - Farnley regain possession in midfield but were unable to breah the Kirkstall defence.

24th min - It was all Kirkstall as the half closed out & a lovely break upfield resulted in Ricky having a great shot saved by the busy Farnley keeper.

26th min - Kirkstall take the lead with a lovely solo effort from Simon who gained possession inside the Farnley half and ran into the box to fire home high into the net  & give Kirkstall a well deserved lead on balance of play.

27th min - Kirkstall were now beginning to turn possession into chances & Simon again ran into the box this & this time slotted home a low drive to give Kirkstall a 0 - 2 lead.

So half time & a good cup battle in progress. The game was physical but Kirkstall managed to play football & take their chances to take a comfortable lead.

HALF TIME - 0 - 2

Kirkstall substition - Brandon on , Joe off - well played

31st min - Kirkstall start where they left off & Simon again played a good ball into the box only for it to be saved by Farnley's keeper.

Kirkstall were enjoying a good spell of pressure but with no real efforts of note.

33rd min - Farnley have a tame effort easily dealt with by Tom in Kirkstall's goal.

35th min - Jake for Kirkstall had a tame effort easily dealt with by the Farnley keeper. Kirkstall were enjoying plenty of possession at this stage but no efforts of note.

37th min - Farnley have their first real chance of this half & have a great high shot well saved by Tom in goal.

39th min - The result was not in doubt at this point as Kirkstall went on another attack .A great move for Kirkstall as Daniel put a lovely ball into the box from midfield only for Ricky to go one on one with the advancing Farnley keeper who dived leaving Ricky who kept his cool & slotted home from a tight angle from left edge of the box giving Kirkstall an unassailable lead 0 - 3.

42nd min - Kirkstall have a perfectly legitimate goal ruled out by the possibly unsighted match referee. This was a poor decision as the ball was about 1 yard over the line as the Kirkstall players celebrated then pleaded with the referee but to no avail.

Sometimes decisions go against you such is football. That said sometimes you wonder how something so clear & obvious can. However the match continued with Kirkstall still comfortably in the lead 0 - 3 & doing what they do best - playing football.

43rd min - Kirkstall went upfield with Brandon having a good shot well saved by the impressive Farnley keeper.

46th min - Farnley gain what turned out to be a consolation goal. A good move down the right wing & a great cross into the box with a lovely drive low into the net reducing the deficit 1 - 3.

The next few minutes were played out mainly in midfield - no chances of note.

52nd min - Kirkstall win a corner on the right after some good approach play.

53rd min - Kirkstall who were in control were passing & moving with little urgency now & Sean played a good ball into Llyndon whose shot went wide right of the Farnley goal.

The final stages of the game were end to end with no real chances of note. Kirkstall were on the end of a few "late challenges" which might explain the six minutes added on at the end.

So the last eight beckons for Kirkstall after a comfortable win against relatively weak opposition who did it has to be said work hard so well played Farnley.

Team - Tom, Daniel, Ibi, Liam, Katie, Jake, Llyndon, Simon, Sean, Ricky, Joe(s)
Subs - Amani, Brandon(31), Callum & Nathan
