'Mosaic' is a project that aims to become a regular multicultural arts and craft market in Leeds. It has been funded for two years with money from the European Regional Development Fund - Objective 2. The project is to be launched in Chapeltown in Leeds on Sunday 30 October 2005. The weekend arts and crafts market will be positioned at the bottom of Chapeltown Road in Leeds, by the West Indian Centre, Host Media Centre and The Mandela Centre, and will run on weekends. Up to 32 stalls will be open, selling work as diverse as jewellery, bags, cards, paintings and metalwork. Entertainment will include music from CC&DC Sound System (playing revival reggae from the 70's & 80's), comedy from Nina Kane (the comedy 'Singing Secretary'), and circus performances by the Urban Angels. The market will be open to the public on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month subsequently. A range of different arts and crafts will be available to buy at each market, with entertainment provided by different performers, from actors and musicians to poets and street performers. Mosaic also aims to set up exhibition space in Leeds City Centre, and after initial funding the hope is that the project is ultimately sustainable beyond the lifetime of the funding. Mosaic is launched on Sunday 30 October 2005 at the car park next to the Host Media Centre, West Indian Centre, and Mandela Centre on Savile Mount, just off Chapeltown Road (11am - 4pm)
