LYO bring magic to the city

Leeds Youth Opera bring the Mozart favourite The Magic Flute to the Riley Smith Theatre at the University of Leeds.

Facts

The Leeds Youth Opera (LYO) is unique in the UK. It promotes and supports young Leeds talent (12 - 25 years) and provides the public with the opportunity to see two opera productions a year ( to coincide with the school year) to professional standards, in a Leeds theatre at affordable ticket prices.

Leeds Youth Opera are 'between' theatres in July, performing at the Riley Smith Theatre whilst the new Carriageworks Theatre on Millennium Square is being completed and the old Civic Theatre is developed into the new Leeds museum.

The story of the Magic Flute is about Prince Tamino's quest for enlightenment and the love of Pamina and is steeped in the mysteries of Masonic ritual. It is a must see for opera beginners and enthusiasts alike.

The Magic Flute is famous for the two greatest characters in opera - Papageno the bird catcher and the Queen of the Night - who astound and amuse us in turn.

The Magic Flute by Mozart, Wednesday 6 July - Saturday 9 July 2005, 7.30pm at the Riley Smith Theatre (University of Leeds Student Union Building). Tickets are available from the City Centre Box Office at Leeds Central Library.
