Local Bands

Basically Blues

Read a profile of this Leeds-based band.

ARTIST/BAND: Basically Blues
BASED IN: Horsforth
BAND MEMBERS:
Tony Young- guitar and vocals
Trevor Rowley - lead guitar and vocals
Steve Hallas -bass guitar
Chris Williams - keyboards
Bryan Muffitt - drums
BEEN GOING SINCE: January 2000
BIOGRAPHY: The band formed five years ago and had been playing separately before that time, Tony and Chris were part of Billy Fury's band in the 60s. The other guys had been in other bands before joining together to make red house, then they went their separate ways and got together again five years ago to create Basically Blues.
STYLE OF MUSIC: The style of music is as the band name states, basically blues, but can do a varied range of electric music as well as the odd acoustic set. Rock n roll is also a big part of the bands set on occasions.
INFLUENCES: Musical heroes of the band go from as far back as the great blues singer Robert Johnson through the rock period of Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn, Clapton, Gary Moore, right up to present day performers such as Katie Melua.
FAVOURITE SONG: It has got to be one of the Beatles songs for obvious reasons.
BEST MOMENT SO FAR: There has been several highlights, probably the one that springs to mind is the most recent one, which was the Feva Festival in Knaresborough. OTHER INFO: Like I said before two of the guys formed part of Billy Fury's band in the 60s, last year we recorded our first cd in studios at Headingley, that was made in honour and memory to the nine people who lost their lives in the Stocklin Plastics accident on May 11 2004, all the proceeds from the cd went to support the work of Epilepsy Action.
