Live 8 live in Leeds

U2, Madonna, REM, Coldplay, REM and Robbie Williams are just some of the Live 8 concert artistes, shown live on a big screen in Leeds' Millennium Square.

For Live 8 eight free concerts take place simultaneously in London (at Hyde Park), Paris, Berlin, Rome, Edinburgh, Tokyo, Barrie (Canada) and Philadelphia on Saturday 2 July 2005.

Thousands of Leeds music fans are able to watch the BBC coverage on a mobile big screen in Millennium Square, Leeds too.

See pictures of the crowds in Millennium Square by following the links on this page.

The event at Millennium Square will take place from 1pm to 9pm, showing the BBC's coverage of the concert in Hyde Park in London as well as the other venues.

Admission to Millennium Square is free to watch the coverage on a temporary screen similar to that which was used to show the BBC's coverage of Euro 2004 in front of packed crowds last summer.

For details of the concerts and the latest news on the event, visit the BBC's Live 8 website using the link in the right-hand column.

"giant screens will be erected yada yada yada....... aside from portsmouth and wrexham , the other cities have permanant big screens.... not temporary one like the leeds one

Johan
Well Rita... Did U see the documentary on tv yesterday about tinn-mining in africa? As long as U, me and everybody else wants cheap electronics (and tons of other stuff), we're a part of the problem. Few really cares, but a lot of people feel better about them selves after hollowly proclaimed they "want to help". But hey, a little help is better than none!

Ash
U2 all the way, yeah!!! They are gonna rock Leeds in millenium sq. without even being there

kathryn lawton

Carol yorkshire

Rita
People dying of starvation must end now!!!!

Paul Lonsdale, yorkshire
i hope that they play placebo and the cure through from paris on the bbc feed as i think having a pop oriented concert which does not appeal to all sub-cultures would be a mistake and would make people loose interest. more power to geldof the guy's a f****** genius.

nick carter
looking forward to keane and coldplay, ill be watching in millenium square in leeds. Can't wait, it'll be a good replacement from not getting tickets!

Sean Harrison
This concert is about the G8 in Edinburgh and Gleneagles and getting our message across about the issues like Africa, War, Environment and many others. I hope that you will show events in Scotland as well as the concert in London and allow people to get a real sense of the happenings in Britain and the rest of the world. In Millenium Sq on Saturday people should be discussing why its happening.

paul, Yorkshire
I can't say I'm too excited by any of the 'artistes' (sic); especially Madogga.. but it's not about the music is it? I'll be there!

Caroline Chids
I am looking forward to being able to sit & watch the whole concert & be a part of it all. U2 so close yet so far!
