Over 40 festival events have been organised by Leeds arts organisations and artists. These events take place at a wide variety of venues across the city and include a plan to fill Hyde Park with red sofas, a video sequence of Leeds' 29 postal areas, a half-scale model of a Leeds landmark made from 8,000 individually folded cardboard bricks, a woman putting corsets around trees and a DIY art critics kit.

A football stand will be built from junk outside Leeds Art Gallery and there's a digital show of the Leeds skyscape being projected in a Yeadon cafe. Leeds Metropolitan Art Gallery will be hosting an exhibition exploring public space by John Dummet and a team of artists will measure out the world's statistics in grains of rice, stating out with one grain to represent each person in the country - 59 million grains, or 989kg.

All this, plus professional forums, public talks, and an art night taking place in a city centre pub. If you have ever wondered what modern art is all about, this is chance to find out. The biggest arts festival in Leeds’ recent history, it is hoped that Situation Leeds will set a framework for future festivals.
