Susie Barrett has just completed a commission for a new piece Blue and Orange as a result of the Twisted Nerve exhibition at Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre in Knaresborough earlier this year.
This is another textiles piece that incorporates fibre optics.
Susie says: "I have often used sisal in my work and love the way it performs in quite a sculptural manner. The fibre optics combine well with the sisal and I am able to produce work that can stand in it's own right during the day and at night can light up to produce a different mood."
"I have also completed a further piece without fibre optics concentrating on colour and texture - Yellow, Orange and Purple."
Susie has completed the video skills at Cleveland College of Art and Design. She was chosen to take part in AA2A course – Artists Access to Art Colleges - which is sponsored by the Arts Council to enable artists to learn new skills.
"There I am working on an environmental video that looks at the accumulation of plastic into the environment. Quite a contrast but equally exciting."
The resultant piece was shown in Berlin in September at the Restcycling Festival.
