Two
groups of children from Years 5 and 6 have visited the Yorkshire
Dales in June 2003. Their visits were part of our 'Outdoor Education'
programme. The groups stayed at Dentdale Youth Hostel and Foxwood
Farm.
Activities
enjoyed by the children included:
A
visit to Malham
A torch-lit night walk
Raft-building
Canoeing
Adventurous caving
The
pupils had to meet the challenge of building a raft from a few barrels,
some wood and a supply of ropes. Some groups were more successful
than others!
The
most exciting activity was a trip underground with caving instructors
Duncan and Graham. Fully equipped, the children overcame any fears
and descended into the darkness.
During a two hour expedition close to Ribblehead Viaduct, the children
were able to crawl and wriggle through caving challenges such as
‘The Slide of Oblivion ‘The Jaws of Death’ and
the infamous ‘Worm Hole.
A
stunning week of activities that was a perfect way for the children
to bring their primary education to a close! ...High School here
we come!
