My
name is Vikas Sachdeva or Vick. I was born and bred in Britain.
I live in Leeds. My mum's from New Delhi and my dad's from Punjab.
They
always say that if your grandfather was a chef and your dad was
a chef then you should take the same role but I think the buck stopped
here really. I thought that I wanted to do something different.
Working
with both worlds
 |
| Vick
fits in his performances around a full time day job |
I've
been dancing since I was four. I'm 29 now going on 30. Boogiewala
came about approximately ten years ago, he was developed by me.
I was thinking of working with both worlds, as in English as well
as Indian.
Boogiewala
basically means boogie person. Wala is person and boogie as in dancing.
He's a fun, entertaining - I thinks that's the essence of Mr Boogiewala.
Bollywood
with everything
The
Boogiewala concept is mixing Bollywood with everything, whether
it be Saturday Night Fever from the 70's or mixing Bollywood with
jazz or funk music.
 |
| Mr
Boogiewala took part in an event that raised money for Asian
earthquake victims |
With
my performances I think I have an edge because I'm trying to entertain
rather than just perform. I try to pull out magic tricks while I'm
doing a dance performance.
If I'm doing a Billie Jean I might take off my hat and a card drops
out. I just try to make it really funny. Not everyone will find
it funny but a lot of people do.
My
act can include John Travolta and Saturday Night Fever, Michael
Jackson and Billie Jean, also Bangra and Bollywood performers and
I'm working on Elvis at the moment.
I'm
working on Elvis
I've
done shows in Leicester, Manchester, Birmingham, Hull, Newcastle,
Edinburgh. I travel up and down the country doing all types of multicultural
and charity events.
I would
like to teach children dance and mime. It would be great to have
lots of little Boogiewalas.
 |
| Vick
keeps working on new personalities to add to his act |
In
the future I would be looking at acting, perhaps working in a Bollywood
movie - ideally Sholay 2.
The
idea is that during performances I can make 200, maybe 500 people
smile. During a theatre performance I could make 500 to 1,000 people
laugh.
My
ultimate aim
But my ultimate aim is to try to get a smile on as many faces as
I can. I think the only way I can do that is on the big screen because
it's published right round the world.
