This
'Healthwise' class is designed for people with certain health problems.
People can only attend if they have been referred by their doctor.
Stereotypes
It's
been a fantastic experience for me to be able to work with these
students - especially after all the recent negative stereotypes
of Muslim or Pakistani people in the Media.

For
me to find how we jelled together and had so much in common was
really good.
They
made me feel comfortable with them as a group. As the weeks progressed
we bonded and we had a fun time.
The
veil and terrorism
We
were able to talk about stories that were in the media. That was
really important for them as well as myself. We were able to discuss
the veil and terrorism.
At
the end I realised we were so much alike. I don't see them as somebody
different - we're all one.

I've
learnt, through working with this elderly group, that maybe I had
that stereotype about them - that they all hate foreigners and look
down on Muslims and Pakistani people but it was completely different.
It
is so important for both of us all that we mix.
I feel privileged to have taught them. I feel that working with
them has made me a better person.
I would definitely teach a similar group if I am offered the opportunity.
