FACTS

Two Persian dishes:

Ghormeh Sabzi
A subtle concoction of lamb, herbs, and lemon that takes great skill and hours to prepare.

Sesenjan
Chicken in a pomegranate sauce with walnuts.

Oil
In 1908 large quantities of oil were discovered in Iran and a British company (later British Petroleum) was formed to develop the resource.

Iran was known as Persia until 1935. On 1 April 1979 Iran became an Islamic Republic.

My parents are both originally from Iran. I was born in Bradford but I went back to Iran when I was six years old.

When I was 17 years old I decided to come to England to study. I took a degree course at Leeds university.

When I saw the opportunities here so I have decided to stay and work here as well.

Research and development

The work I want to get involved in is research and development in electronics and communication. This area is more advanced in England and the USA. I plan to continue my studies and take a Masters.

At the moment I want to work here in England for a big company but I might move to the USA if there is a good opportunity there.

Some people have said that I should go back to Iran and work in a company when I finish studying like my father did; but I like the lifestyle here and I wouldn't for the moment like to go back (to Iran) and work there.

Being Iranian, although I want to live here, I wouldn't like to lose my culture. Especially how I treat old and poor people. I was taught to help elderly and needy people.

Iranian poetry and music

The other thing is poetry - I love Iranian poetry and Iranian music - traditional music especially. The other thing is food, Iranian food. I love Iranian food. I love cooking Iranian food.

I would say there is a small probability that I might go back to Iran and work there; but at the moment I have to weigh up my choices and decide which is the better option.

For the moment I think living here and studying and working here is better for me.
