I've
got a vast number of family members still in Iran so I go there
quite often to see them all. I've got 36 cousins!
When
I go to Iran there's a connection there. It's not something I can
see physically but I know we are all really close and they would
do anything for me.

When
I go to Iran I don't feel like an outsider, I just feel I wish I
was doing this all the time. I wish could speak to my cousins on
a regular basis or just hang out, go shopping with them and stuff.
My favourite shop in Leeds is a vintage clothing shop retro boutique
in Hyde Park. I love coming here after uni. I just browse the rails
and there are lots of clothes from the 1920's, 30's, 40's, going
up to the 1980's. It's really colourful and just full of knick knacks.
Flapper's
dress
My
favourite piece of (vintage) clothing is a flapper's dress - from
the 1920's.

I love
it because it's falling apart and you can see there's lipstick on
the collar.
You wonder who has worn it before you. It's like going back in time.
I think,
because I can't always speak to my family and see what they went
through in the 60's and the 50's, I want to experience that through
wearing different clothes that make me feel as if I'm in that period.
Walking
on the Moon
It's really strange but - I love walking in the street in 2006 but
deep down I feel it could be 1969 and someone could be walking on
the Moon.
In
the UK people tend to want to know where they came from ... and
trace your family tree. It's exciting for people to know "My
great, great, grandfather was so-and-so."

I would
love to know where I came from because I've got such an interesting
history but you can't really do that in Iran.
You have to live for yourself there - for today.
You can go back to your grand-father or your great grand-father
but beyond that you don't really know where you come from.
They
were so busy living their own lives they didn't bother with records,
with birth certificates being accurate and death certificates.
It's
a bit of a shame that I don't really know my origins deep back in
history but ... I suppose I'll never know.
