"I
like the idea of children spending their lunch-time wanting to write,
when usually they spend their class-time trying to avoid writing!"
whispered David as he handed out three trays of magnetic words to
anyone who was interested.
Children
came from everywhere and hands chose words to make into short poems
...some carefully and others not so carefully. The sun was shining,
the wind mild and footballs placed to one side to see what was going
on with this strange man and his trays of letters.
"they
said come to an angry forest" ...words magnitised to a metal
gate which lead through to overgrown bushes.
"my
frantic dream" was placed on the floor by the steps until the
hundredth pair of feet which walked over it kicked the words away.
Children
came, took words from the trays, wrote their short poems and were
called for by the lunch-time supervisors to go for their dinner.
Quickly they photographed their work before another call came.
"It's
nice doing this work" said Isma. "It's nice to put words
in funny places", she said as she watched children stick words
on an iron grate.
