Four
of them came and spent a day at the BBC in Leeds.
Eager
to begin
At
around nine thirty in the morning the four community correspondents
turned up at Broadcasting House on Woodhouse Lane eager to begin
their day at the BBC. They were greeted by the all_2gether_now project
editor Ashley Peatfield and project co-ordinator Jackie Cox.
After
a brief tour, including a visit to the studio where John Boyd was
presenting the 'Good Morning' programme, the group joined the journalists
and producers of BBC Radio Leeds for the morning meeting. They heard
the staff discussing the stories of the day and planning how the
programmes would be put together.

The
four community correspondents spent the rest of the day in the newsroom,
working alongside the journalists and producers as the day got in
to full swing. They helped put in calls to prospective interviewees
and learnt how the skills they'd learned were the same as those
used by the journalists every day.
It
was a long day but everyone enjoyed themselves and learnt a lot.
One
of the community correspondents, Natalie Glanville, said that she
"hadn't realised how many jobs there were in a radio station"
and that she felt the day "had helped her to focus on which
university courses woiuld be best".
Future
days at the BBC are planned and the training of our community correspondents
is ongoing.
