A farm in the City of Leeds.
Children at Meanwood Farm.
Agreat day out

A day at Meanwood Valley Urban Farm really doesn't feel like work, yet it is. It's a great day out and such a treat.

Day tripper

When you go to Meanwood Valley Urban Farm it might not look much, but there is plenty to see and do. There's animals to stroke, games to play, gardens to explore and lessons to attend (...GROAN) It's an adventure park. All in all, it was a clean, educational visit that is worth all the pennies.

Animals

Meanwood is perfectly suited for keeping animals because of all the different soils and plants that grow. They keep goats, donkeys and pigs.

Each one has a different use e.g. Pigs equals bacon & pork ...Which equals money for the farm. Goats can be milked and donkeys can be used to plough the earth.

The animals have to work for the farm; there's no room for just being pretty!

Project: Rocks and soils

When we went to Meanwood, we experimented on Rocks (4 different types) and soils (the ingredients) and I learnt loads. Soils are made up of gravel, silt, sand and dead parts of plants.

The experiment we did was adding water to the soil and naming the layers. With the rocks we tested them to see if they bubbled when acid is poured on; if they scratched glass; if they crumbled when they were rubbed hard and if it had layers.

(The rocks we tested were Limestone, Millstone grit (sandstone and Granite).

A good educational day out for all of us.
