Languages & Travel

Starts Tuesday 14 February to Friday 24 February, 04.00 - 06.00 on BBC2

Inka Martí and Robert Elms
WEDNESDAY 15 FEBRUARY 2012
Today continues our Spanish language programming at 04:00 with Spanish Journey. This is a compilation adapted from the travel and culture series Spain Inside Out (two episodes of which were broadcast yesterday morning). Once again we join journalist and broadcaster Robert Elms and Spanish TV presenter and writer Inka Martí on a journey round southern Spain, discovering the inside story on places of local and historic interest, hidden cultural treasures and some fascinating and sometimes famous personalities. The difference from Spain Inside Out is that this adaptation is an all-Spanish version of the material, with both the commentary and the subtitles being in Spanish.
Carla, taking part in Rio's Carnival, from Brazil Inside Out
FRIDAY 17 FEBRUARY 2012
Starts at 04:00 with Brazil Inside Out: Rio De Janeiro, where journalist and author Alex Bellos is our guide to discovering the dynamic and varied cultural life of Brazil. In this episode film-maker Fernando Meirelles looks at the life of domestic servants who become carnival queens by night, Globo TV and the power of soap opera, exclusive fashion from the ghettos and life on the beach.

This is followed at 04:30 by the six part series Talk Portuguese, a short practical course for absolute beginners covering the most useful travel basics. Portuguese and Brazilians from all walks of life join in the programmes to give a taste of their language and culture. The series is filmed in Lisbon and the nearby coast, the lush green hills of the Douro valley and, in the east, the historic fortified towns on the border with Spain.
Mi Vida Loca
TUESDAY 14 FEBRUARY 2012
The week opens with a night of Spanish language programming, starting at 04:00 with Mi Vida Loca. Enjoy a dramatic story of intrigue and mystery and brush up on your Spanish as you become involved in journalist Mercedes Muñoyerro’s investigation of illegal property developments on the costas of Spain. Suitable for beginners and end of year revision, the programme consists of 6x10 minute parts. Commentary in English, with subtitles in Spanish.

Next up at 05:00 is an episode from the Spanish travel and culture guide, Spain Inside Out: A Land of Surprises. Broadcaster Robert Elms and Spanish TV journalist Inka Martí explore Madrid, Granada and the snows of the Sierra Nevada. We continue at 05:30 with Spain Inside Out: Cities of the South where Inka discovers the fascinating port of Cádiz, while Robert savours the colour and extravagance of Seville. Commentary and subtitles are in English.
La Mappa Misteriosa
THURSDAY 16 FEBRUARY 2012
Today begins at 04:00 with La Mappa Misteriosa, an Italian learning drama in which the viewer is one of the protagonists. On a mystery adventure through the Emilia Romagna region of Italy they'll meet a cast of characters and of course learn to speak Italian.

This is followed at 05:30 by Italy Inside Out: Venice. Millions come to admire the beauty, but what is it like to live there? Discover the Venice that isn't in the guidebooks.
