  • Duration: 04:47
  • At the theatre in Suzhou, crowds of ardent fans gather to see singer Xiao Ya. Most of them are middle-aged women and Xiao Ya knows she must try to appeal to a wider audience if she's to be truly successful. One solution has been to fill the stage with vibrant colours. Her performance turns out to be a feast for the eyes and ears. Now Xiao Ya is setting herself an even higher goal - to take 'yueju', a lyrical opera originating from south-east China, onto the international stage. Back in Shanghai, Xiao Ya invites friends and family to celebrate the first anniversary of her company. It's been a long, hard road and Xiao Ya has learnt to rely on no one but herself and her passion.
