Key Info
  • Dance - inspiration from the farm
  • Duration: 06:04
  • The quiet rural setting of the farm is used by dancers to stimulate a wide range of creative movements. Chickens, goats, birds - each has its own character and the choreography evolves from and exaggerates their movements. We see the jerky to and fro of chickens, the twitching or tussling of animals in pens, and the grace and subtlety of a perched bird. The farm is also somewhere to play - puddles need jumping in and hay bales need leaping on. There are machines and mechanical movements, and spaces like gates and hay in a barn become places to make shapes in.

  • Geography - describe the farm. What is a farm like, what might you see? Environment - contrast town and countryside (contrast with later film on the station, i.e. quiet, space, peaceful versus busy, noisy etc). Art - to inspire work on landscape. Art - to look at shapes and shadow puppets using the section of the person in the barn window - focus on hands. Dance - puddles. Shadowing, copying movements (good link for indoor and outdoor working). Dance - movements of animals - we see chickens but what movements might other animals make? Dance - scarecrows and partner work. One is the scarecrow, who the other can manipulate (to form different shapes) and dance around and then swap - developing teamwork and trust. Music - developing rhythms to match the movements of different animals (link with the Places - India Tabla clip here). PE - using the bales of hay section to inspire children to use large apparatus (gym tables/benches etc) in different ways to enhance their movements. Literacy - multi-sensory - adjectives to describe sights, sounds and smells found on a farm.
