Reading scales

Reading scales
Key Info
  • Reading scales
  • Duration: 01:07
  • When we measure things like how tall we are, how much we weigh, how far we can jump or how much milk we might need to make a hot chocolate drink, we use measuring equipment such as a ruler, measuring tape, weighing scales or a measuring jug. Measuring equipment has a scale on it so we can measure accurately. Children are shown measuring the distance jumped by friends taking part in a long jump competition.

Ideas for use in class
  • This clip would be helpful to use when first learning about a range of measuring equipment and how to read the scale on a measuring tape. It would be useful to play to pupils before they carry out some similar measuring activities.
