Key Info
  • Protests against the Anglo Irish Agreement
  • Duration: 04:57
  • Peter Robinson, a senior member of the Democratic Unionist Party, is featured prominently. He is shown touring picket lines and similar protests organised by Unionists opposed to the Anglo Irish Agreement. He is challenged about whether his actions are democratic and lawful and he suggests that the alternative forms of protest would be violence. Peaceful protests are featured. So are more sinister protests involving intimidation and the presence of Loyalist paramilitaries. The reporter comments on criticisms of police inaction but the head of the RUC is shown denying that his police force was able to do more. A Unionist rally is shown in Lisbon, but the report focuses on the presence of one of a Loyalist paramilitary group. This is followed by an interview with a Loyalist paramilitary leader. The report closes with scenes of violence against the police and army.
