Key Info
  • Parable of the Good Samaritan (pt 1/2)
  • Duration: 02:03
  • A modern re-telling of the Parable of the Good Samaritan, in two parts. The narrative device used is to see the story through the eyes of a 'wannabe Messiah' in the 'Kingdom of the Tramps'. The narrator is 'in the messiah business'. He's puzzled by the ideas behind the parables, and also threatened by the success of Jesus' teaching - Jesus is competition for the values he preaches. The 'Kingdom of the Tramps' pictures everyone as a beggar, at least in spiritual terms.
  • Subject:

    Religious Education

  • Keywords: Jesus, Christianity, God, Parable, neighbour, love, Gospel, good samaritan, samaritan, priest, levite
Ideas for use in class
  • Working in pairs, ask students to compare the video version of the parable with Jesus' original version, and make a simple note of comparisons. What has the drama company added to the story? What have they left out? Ask each pair whether they think the message of each parable has been made clear by the drama group. How would they rate them on a scale of 1 - 5 (1 = very clear; 5 = confused). This clip is one of two that together tell the parable. The two clips are best used together.
