Key Info
  • New rules for managing migration
  • Duration: 02:19
  • New immigration rules have been put in place by the Government to radically overhaul the way in which immigration into the UK is decided. The points system will concentrate on the fact that you have more chance of getting to work in the UK if you have more skills. Doctors or engineers would need 75 points to qualify, a degree would earn 30 points. Low skilled workers will stand less chance of being accepted with 'five tiers strategy' being laid out; highly skilled scientists in the top tier to students at the bottom. First broadcast on BBC News on 27 March 2006.
