Key Info
  • Icelandic volcano - eruptions and disruptions
  • Duration: 13:57
  • When Eyjafjallajökull erupted in Iceland a huge ash cloud drifted in and out of UK airspace and caused six days of flight disruptions around the world in April 2010. Presenter Ore travels to Iceland to meet some of the children and families living close to the volcano and find out how it affected them. They describe what it is like living so close to the volcanic eruption and the damage caused by the ash to their farms and school. Ore finds volcanic evidence across the island, encountering geysers spurting boiling water, geothermal spas, black volcanic beaches and blocks of glacier ice blown off the mountain when the volcano erupted. Due to the floodwaters caused by the melting glacier ice Ore is unable to get as close to the volcano as he would have liked, and he also struggles with pronouncing its Icelandic name.
