  • The French cafe is an integral part of daily life, but it is coming under threat during the recession. At least two cafes went out of business every day in France during 2009-2010. Politicians are considering subsidies to save traditional cafes, which now have to compete with international chains. David Chazan reports from the village of Fontenay-Saint-Pere, near Paris, where the last cafe is struggling to survive.
