Key Info
  • Earthquakes in Great Britain
  • Duration: 04:05
  • A news report about the biggest earthquake to hit the UK in 25 years. The earthquake measured 5.2 on the Richter scale and had its epicentre at Ludford in Lincolnshire. This quake caused severe damage to many buildings, including a 900-year-old church. The new monitoring station will detect earth movements anywhere in the UK. It cannot prevent future quakes, but will be able to predict events. There is also a tour of a new training centre where emergency services will learn how to deal with such events, although another quake of this scale is not likely for at least 30 years. This clip was first published on BBC News Online on 9 February 2009. Please note this clip is only available in Flash.
