  • Duration: 03:25
  • The North Corner area of Devonport in Plymouth was once very run down and had a reputation for crime and anti-social behaviour. The problem called for a drastic solution. The area was completely rebuilt and rebranded as Gun Wharf, which is now seen by many as a model estate. When it came to rebuilding the most important thing was to listen to the people who were going to live there. The developers listened to their ideas and planned the estate in line with their requests. Long-term residents talk about the impact of the new estate on their daily lives. Ideas for use in class
  • This clip could be used as a stimulus for discussion on what pupils think needs to improve in their local area. Furthermore, pupils could design their own ideal housing estate, deciding on the most important features and how they would use the spaces creatively.
