  • A report about the unusual courtship of the rare Chinese alligator, also known as the Muddy Dragon. These alligators are close to extinction and there are only about 150 remaining. Most are now in captivity. At dawn and dusk they begin their courtship by rising from the water and bellowing. The sound is heard above water and felt below water by females. A female approaches a male and they are seen investigating each other through scent glands under their jaws. Mating follows.
