Key Info
  • Choreographer Chisato Minamimura
  • Duration: 05:30
  • Deaf choreographer Chisato Minamimura and Carly, one of her performers, discuss the various challenges of working with each other and the issues which may arise as a result of collaboration between a deaf choreographer and hearing dancers. We hear the flow of the process can be interrupted by having to call for translation although Chisato emphasises her determination to communicate directly with her dancers despite the fact that English is her fourth language. Chisato describes her interest in Mozart's work and his abundant use of canon was the prompt for the title of her work 'The Canon for Duet'. We see a short excerpt from the piece and hear a section of the score which is an edited recording of a Japanese haiku.
