Building the Berlin Wall
BBC reporter Peter Woods reports on the construction of the Berlin wall. The footage shows soldiers guarding the structure and workers building the wall. It also illustrates families being separated by a woman standing waving to a family member on the opposite side of the wall. Peter states that by the end of the day no one would be allowed to pass to west Berlin, and all links to freedom will be sealed. First broadcast on 16 August 1961 and published as part of BBC Archive Collections: bbc.co.uk/archive/. Please note this clip is only available in Flash.
