A homeless child's story
Jamie was taken into care but was very unhappy and kept running away. Eventually he began sleeping rough and explains how he survived in a tent in some woods during the winter. He is now 17 years old and has been housed by the charity Shelter, but he continues to be concerned about the plight of other homeless young people. This clip was first published on BBC Newsround Online on 16 August 2010. Please note this clip is only available in Flash.
As a starting point for talking about why people are homeless - Jamie was unhappy in care, but what other reasons might there be for very young people to be sleeping rough and what are our attitudes to homeless people?
