Highland Clearances - Eviction Resistance
Two characters read letters detailing the story of a group of tenants in Glencalvie who initially refused to leave during the Highland Clearances, so the landowner paid them to do so. They camped out in a churchyard and messages they scratched into the windows can still be read today.
Use to discuss protests and other forms of political or social engagement in history and in modern times. The messages left in the church can lead into a discussion of different types of historical evidence.
