This can be used to look at why and how the same event can be reported differently by individuals and institutions. Students may also want to consider the perspectives of other audience members, e.g. soldiers, freed slaves and enslaved people, the rich, the poor, the old. Ask students to write their own evaluation of the speech. Which review would they support? What changes would they make to the address to improve it? Could be used in conjunction with clips 6448 and 6481 and with negative newspaper reviews of the speech made immediately after it was given.
