Did God make the world in six days?
Alister McGrath explains that the six day story has been interpreted by Christians in a number of ways. Most Christians, for example, are prepared to interpret a day as a vast expanse of time. He further explains that the mechanism and timescale of creation is irrelevant. The important issue is that God made this happen. He poses the question as to whether there a purpose behind creation and evolution. This Christian view is that God is behind the process of evolution.
Look at the Biblical story of creation and an atheistic interpretation of the Big Bang theory prior to viewing the clip ( e.g. Richard Dawkins). Note down how Alister McGrath interprets the six days of creation. Note down questions that he asks throughout the piece. Try to devise answers for these from a christian viewpoint and from an atheistic viewpoint.
What might he mean by 'there is a God whose nature is expressed in what we see around us'?
