Description: In this clip the children want to know why there are more smaller creatures than large ones. Stella explains that food, and the energy in it is needed by all living things. She then explains that our food energy comes from the sun when plants convert sunlight into their food by photosynthesis. The energy in the plants is then passed on up a food chain in which many smaller creatures are needed to feed fewer large creatures at the top of the chain.
