Prophecies and earthquakes
Find out about the theory that an entranced priestess, the Pythia, who was famous for her prophecies at the ancient Greek Temple of Apollo at Delphi, could actually have been put into trances due to geographical reasons! Modern geologists have discovered that the ancient temple was located to sit above two fault lines that give off noxious gases. The Pythia would have had to inhale these toxic fumes as she gave her prophecies. First broadcast on 'Ten things you didn't know about...earthquakes' on BBC4 in January 2008.
