Binge eating is now considered to be as dangerous as anorexia and bulimia. This follows the story of Hayley who explains about her eating disorder and the way it has affected her since she was eight years old. She explains how binge eating helped her to cope with her body hatred. Hayley discusses how she is starting to conquer her condition with the help of therapy. An animated science sequence shows the part that fatty foods play in stimulating the production of endorphins. First broadcast in the Learning Zone on BBC2 in December 2012 as part of the programme Body Matters.
Could be used as a stimulus for discussion on aspects of bullying. It could be used to raise awareness of eating disorders and to encourage empathy for sufferers such as Hayley.
May also be of interest to psychology students. It could lend itself to GCSE Biology where eating disorders are explored alongside diet and exercise.
