  • Duration: 08:21
  • Hawa, pregnant with her fifth child, lives in poverty in a rural village in Sierra Leone, without access to water, electricity, education and healthcare. The country is rich in natural resources but its people are in poverty. Hawa describes her life, her hopes for her children and why, although living in poverty, she wants a large family. We visit a charity-run hospital for women with complications in pregnancy. During scenes of childbirth, doctors explain why the infant and maternal mortality rates are so high. Government plans for improved healthcare are discussed. Contains scenes of childbirth and scenes which some may find upsetting. Can be used in conjunction with 14003, 14004 and 14006.
