The impact of the tanks: in battle and at home
The introduction of tanks to the battlefields of Europe in September 1916 had response both at home in the British press, in popular imagination and also on the battlefield. This clip considers these perspectives with commentary from primary witnesses and footage of the tanks in action.
This is ideal for students to consider the relative benefits of the tanks and the introduction to the battlefield during World War One. Students will be able to balance their impact at home and embattled and make judgements on whether a tank was a successful weapon of war in 1916.
