A young girl performs at a poetry recital
Alexandra, a young girl, is shown reciting The 'Listeners' by Walter de la Mare, on stage in front of a large audience. She performs the poem with a great deal of expression. We then see her at home, preparing for her recital. She talks about how she learned the poem, and how she thinks about performing it, by imagining herself in the position of the characters. Her parents talk about how she has become a lot less shy than she used to be. Finally, we see her winning a recital competition at her local library. First shown as part of the Off by Heart season.
Can be used to demonstrate an effective poetry recital. In a discussion about poetry and recitals, or about the work of Walter de la Mare. Can be usefully used in conjunction with 12312, 12305, 12307 and 12314
