Key Info
  • North Vietnam under the pressures of war
  • Duration: 02:16
  • The life of young people in Vietnam is considered in terms of the impact which war had had upon them. The commentator describes how young people have effectively been evacuated from North Vietnam towns to the countryside for their own safety, because of the immense American bombing campaign. The footage shows young teenagers digging trenches and describes how whole schools are built in and around trenches and underground shelters. The focus then shifts to a North Vietnamese woman who is a colonel of the local militia, contrasting her normal everyday appearance with her authority and activity as a military official.
