Key Info
Ideas for use in class
  • Blending and segmenting words. See how many other words you can make with the letters 't', 'r', 'a', 'p', and 'y'. Extend this idea by giving your child another word, such as 'Mother' or 'Father' and see how many other words they can make with some or all of these letters. In this game, the letters can be used in any order. You may also wish to play 'Words within a word', in which you take a word and see how many words you can spot within that word. In this game, the letters must be in the same order as they appear in the original word. For example, if you take the word 'Grandfather', you might spot the words: 'Gran', 'grand', 'and', 'fat', 'Father', 'the', 'her' etc. This game works particularly well with longer words. Words used in this episode: trap, Rat, tap, art, party.
