Monsoon floods in Pakistan: the rescue effort
The BBC correspondent Orla Guerin reports on rescue efforts in Pakistan during the floods of August 2010. The province of Sindh in southern Pakistan was badly affected by the monsoon-related floods of August 2010. Key dams and flood barriers were breached by the rising floodwaters and large areas of the province were inundated. Members of the Pakistani army worked against the clock to rescue those at greatest risk. Orla Guerin joined one of the rescue boats travelling across the vast flood waters to pick up villagers clinging to the remains of their houses in the pouring rain.
