Adult skills

BBC Learning supports people in acquiring the skills essential to life and work in the 21st century. These include literacy, numeracy, communication and computer skills.

BBC RaW logo

RaW is the BBC's biggest ever literacy campaign, targeting the estimated 12 million people in the UK who have limited reading and writing skills (below GCSE/Standard Grade level). It aims to motivate them through their interests (such as football or TV soaps) and through their role as parents. RaW offers games and features on its interactive website, and a wide range of activities with partner organisations throughout the UK.

Building on the success and experience of our existing skills activities, BBC Learning is developing a new interactive and entertainment-linked offering – 'RaW skills for everyday life' – which will bring together learning support in literacy, numeracy, ICT and communication skills.

BBC Skillswise logo

Skillswise helps adults improve their English and maths, and is linked to the national basic skills curricula. It is used by learners direct and is also the most popular online resource among basic skills tutors.

BBC Computer Tutor logo

Computer Tutor is a video-based step-by-step guide for those who are new to computers.

BBC Webwise logo

WebWise is a more extensive guide to using computers and the internet. People who complete the online course can obtain a nationally recognised qualification at accredited local centres.

BBC Ouch! logo

BBC Ouch! is a website that reflects the lives and experiences of disabled people, featuring contributions from columnists, personal articles, factual features, podcasts and blogs. A lively community has developed around the messageboard and various projects on the Ouch! website.
