Hello everyone, I’m Tom.

Sam
Hi, and I’m Sam! Hi!

Caalii
Saam afuurrishee citterra, sababiinsaas istuudiyoof barfatteetti! I thought people in England are always on time, Sam!

Sam

Well, yeah, that’s generally true! But the traffic was terrible this morning!

Tom
I don’t think so, Sam! I think you’d be late for your own funeral!

Caalii
Ha ha! Be nice, Tom! ‘To be late for your own funeral’ kun Ibsannnoo Afaan Ingilizii namni tokko barfachuu dhaabuu dadhabuusaa kan ibsuudha. ‘Funeral’ jechuun awwaalcha ykn qabriidha. Does that really happen, Tom?

Tom
No, of course not! It’s just an expression. However, one story that has been in the news recently is that people in the UK have started being late for their own weddings!

Caalii
That’s right! Which brings us today’s question – akkaataa hitched.co.uk irratti ifa ta’etti, biyya UKtti giddu-gallisatti baasii cidhaaf bahu hangami?
a) £7000
b) £17,000
c) £27,000

Sam

Presenter: Have you been especially inconvenienced by tardy brides?
Vicar: Well, at Holy Cross and throughout the Church of England we love to take weddings. This all began when I was away, actually. I was away in Africa and there were two weddings when I was away, the brides were 20 or 25 minutes late. I came back and there had been no explanation offered, or an apology, and my team felt a bit ill-used.
Presenter: And does it work?
Vicar: This year, everybody's got their cheques back! All the weddings have started on time. It's usually the brides, I'm sorry to say it's brides! Bridegrooms obviously arrive 40 minutes, an hour before. They sometimes are too early!

Tom
Did you hear that?! He called the brides ‘tardy’!

Caalii
I heard! ‘Tardy’ nama yeroo heddu barfatu tokko ibsa. I think it is fair to say they are being tardy - that is a long time!

Tom
Yeah, and think about the poor bridegrooms and how long they have to wait.

Caalii
Yes! ‘Bridegroom’ or ‘groom’ jechuun miisrricha. He said the bridegrooms are often 45 minutes early for the wedding.

Sam
So, if the bridegroom is early, and the bride is late, people could be waiting for almost an hour before the ceremony begins!

Caalii
Right! ‘Ceremony’ means ‘sirna’. And that means that people would spend an extra £100 before the ceremony finishes!

Tom
Agh! Weddings are so expensive!

Sam
Yes, weddings are big business! What are weddings like where you are? Do you have big wedding receptions?

Caalii
‘Reception’ jechuun afeerraa cidhaa. We also normally have big wedding receptions.

Tom
Wow! Most couples in the UK have a honeymoon, as well. That can’t be cheap, either!

Caalii
‘Honeymoon’ jechuun bashannana yeroo misirrummaati. In my country honeymoon is only common in urban areas.

Sam
In fact, that reminds me! You still haven’t told us the answer to today’s quiz!

Caalii
Ah! Sirriidha! Biyya UKtti giddu-galli baasii cidhaaf ooluu meeqa akka ta’e si gaafannee turre. Deebiinsaa c)£27,000dha. That’s 10% more than last year!

Sam
Wow!

Tom
My goodness. Is there any need to have such extravagant weddings?!

Caalii
‘Extravagant’ jechuun maalaqa kan qisaasu. I think it is nice to have an extravagant wedding. It is one of the most important days of your life!

Tom
And it sounds like it’s one of the most expensive days of your life, as well! What a waste of money!

Caalii
Waa’ee jechoota har’aa irradeebinee haayaannu. Ati nama ‘tardy’ kan yeroo mara barfatuudha? Nama ‘Late for your own funeral?’ Sirna awwaalchaa/qabrii isaarrttille barfatuu ta’u dandeessa?
