Hello!  'How do I…' కార్యక్రమానికి స్వాగతం. నేను సౌమ్య. ఇదిగో నాతో పాటూ Sam కూడా ఉన్నారు.

పాములు, తేళ్లు, సాలెపురుగులు, దెయ్యం సినిమాలు, ఎత్తైన ప్రదేశాలు... ఇవన్నీ వింటుంటే మీకేమనిపిస్తోంది? భయమేస్తోంది కదూ! రైట్. ఇవాళ మనం భయాన్ని ఇంగ్లిష్‌లో ఎలా చెప్పాలో తెలుసుకుందాం. ‘Fear’ అంటే భయం ఈ నలుగురు వాళ్ల వాళ్ల భయాల గురించి చెప్తున్నారు. విందాం.

Examples
I'm scared of spiders. (female)

I'm really frightened of snakes. (male)

I'm absolutely terrified of heights. (male)

Horror movies are scary. (female)

అమ్మో, హారర్ మూవీస్ చూస్తున్నప్పుడు నేను కూడా భయపడతా! తేళ్లు, జెర్రిలు అన్నా కూడా భయమే! So, Sam, shall we look at the language they used to talk about their fears? 

Sam
Let's do it! Let's start with person number one – she used the adjective 'scared' after 'I'm'. 

సౌమ్య 
ఆమె spiders - సాలెపురుగులంటే భయమని చెప్పారు. ఎలా చెప్పారో మళ్లీ జాగ్రత్తగా గమనించండి. 

Example
I'm scared of spiders. 

సౌమ్య 
విన్నారా? భయానికి ‘scared’ అనే పదం వాడారు. Scared తరువాత ‘of’ అని చెప్పారు. గుర్తుపెట్టుకోండి. భయపడేవాటి గురించి చెప్పేటప్పుడు ‘of’ అనే వాడాలి.

Yes! Let's try saying the whole sentence. Repeat after me, please:

‘I'm scared of spiders.’ 

సౌమ్య 
తరువాతి వ్యక్తికి పాములంటే భయంట. కానీ అతను scared అనే పదం వాడలేదే! ఇంకేదో అన్నారు. జాగ్రత్తగా వినండి. 

Example
I'm really frightened of snakes. 

Sam
It was 'frightened of', which is another way to say 'scared of'. And like 'scared of' you need to use the verb 'to be', so 'I'm really frightened of snakes'. Let's quickly practise that. Repeat after me:

‘I'm really frightened of snakes.’ 

And what does 'really' mean here? 

సౌమ్య 
ఇక్కడ 'really' అంటే ‘very’ …చాలా అనే అర్థమే వస్తుంది. తరువాతి వ్యక్తి ఏమన్నారో విందాం.

Example
I'm absolutely terrified of heights. 

సౌమ్య 
సో ఇతను ఎత్తైన ప్రదేశాలంటే భయం అంటున్నారు. భయానికి అతను వాడిన పదం విన్నారా? ‘Terrified of’ అన్నారు. అంటే చాలా చాలా భయం అని అర్థం. ‘Terrified’ అంటే ఠారెత్తిపోవడం అన్నమాట. Terrified  కు ముందు ‘absolutely’ అని వాడారు. భయ తీవ్రతను తెలియజెయ్యడానికి absolutely అని వాడారు. అంటే 100%..బొత్తిగా... నిజంగా అని అర్థం.

Yes, and notice that, again, we have the verb 'to be' and we use 'of' before the noun. Let's practise this together:

‘I'm absolutely terrified of heights.’ 

సౌమ్య 
You sounded very scared there! సరే, చివరు వ్యక్తి ఏమన్నారో గుర్తుందా? 

Example
Horror movies are scary.

Sam
Did you hear it? She said 'scary', and the adjective was at the end of the sentence. 

సౌమ్య 
ఆమె 'scary'  అన్నారు. అంటే భయం కలిగించేవి, భయానకమైనవి అని అర్థం. దెయ్యాల సినిమాలంటే భయం అంటున్నారు. Scary, Scared…ఇవన్నీ విశేషణాలు.

Sam
Yes, so let's quickly practise the pronunciation. 

‘Horror movies are scary.’ 

సౌమ్య 
Thanks, Sam. మీకేం భయాలున్నాయి? సాలెపురుగులంటే భయమేనా? అయితే దాన్ని ఇంగ్లిష్‌లో చెప్పండి చూద్దాం. రెండు విధాలుగా చెప్పొచ్చు. తరువాత కూడా చెప్తారు. విని మీ జవాబు సరిచూసుకోండి.

I'm scared of spiders.

I'm frightened of spiders.

సౌమ్య 
Great! ఇప్పుడు మీకు పాములంటే నిజంగా భయం అని చెప్పాలి. 

Sam
I'm absolutely terrified of snakes. 

సౌమ్య 
Good! మీకు కూడా దెయ్యాల సినిమాలంటే భయమే! అదెలా చెప్పాలో గుర్తుందా? 

Sam
Horror movies are scary. 

సౌమ్య 
Do you agree, Sam? 

Sam
Actually, yes! I'm not scared of anything else, but I think horror films are very scary! 

సౌమ్య 
And I'm terrified of lizards. సరే మరి, వచ్చేవారం మరో ‘How do I…’ లో మళ్లీ కలుసుకుందాం. Bye.
