I wanted to write I made the decision to go back to school after a series of different jobs. I went back into catering, I worked in an office, I worked as a bus driver and then I thought 'enough was enough'. None of those were things I really wanted to do. Then I decided I would pursue a course in writing, but I didn't know what was available because my world was so cocooned. I remember going to the local college to find out about courses that would lead me to a job in writing and they told me there was nothing available! So I kept looking through journals and found a course in screenwriting that really got me started. I went I enrolled that evening. |

A better future My children partly affected my decision to go back to school, because I wanted to create a better future for them. But there was also a burning desire in me to fulfill my potential. I couldn't really be happy living like that. |

My degree The most satisfying thing was completing the degree. I came from a background where my education stopped at CSE level which is off the radar scale these days! So for me to go back to University and complete my degree was a real achievement. And to do this with three children to look after as well, that was a big achievement so I was very proud of myself. |

Children and finance Childcare was a big factor in deciding to go back into learning. My children were all at school but finding the time to pick them up, finding time to do the coursework, being able to stay for late classes and traveling across London was difficult. I was able to do it because of the financial and childcare support that was available. |

My life changing decision My life has changed quite a lot since I went back to school. I measure it by my friends who didn't go back to learning and are in same position as they were ten years ago. So my life has changed dramatically in terms of how I feel about myself and what I can earn, my children's lives have changed. It has helped me in the way I guide my children. My life has changed completely and I feel like a different person. |

My plans I think going back to school was crucial for where I am today in my area of work because it takes you through a process of self-awareness and confidence building. You learn where your strengths are and it's not just about the learning. The subjects you study give you a wider understanding of the world. People can work for years and develop those skills, but for me, going back was the best thing I did for myself. I wouldn't be where I am today if I hadn't gone back into learning. |

Go for it! If someone was thinking of going back to learning and had doubts about taking that step. I would encourage them to do it, to take the bull by the horns and for it. It is a wonderful experience and it opens up so many windows of opportunities that you couldn't imagine until you get there! |
